Hello friends,
It's nice to be back again. Thanks for all your support. I was surprised
to see the first messages to me coming in an hour after Finn had sent out
the official message that I would be taking over.
To those who don't know me: I am 23 years old and live in the country of
cannabis and cheese, The Netherlands. Currently I am finishing off my
thesis. To pay the bills, I work in a consultancy company, where I am
responsible for running the European Union cooperation projects under the
‘ADAPT' scheme.
With work, thesis and social life there is not much chance of burning the
midnight oil for DXing, but with winter coming I hope to be able to sit
down a bit more often. Being on winter time helps too, as it gets dark a
bit sooner (I am not too keen on rising early.)
Enough about me. What is in this issue of DX-Window? Well, there are some
new schedules of various international broadcasters but the piece de
resistance, as always, is news from the tropical bands. Gabriel Ivan
Barrera sent us his observations from his recent trip to Chile and many
other people contributed logs on Asian, African and Latin American
stations.
So, signing off from rainy Groningen, I wish you all good reception of
Radio St Helena tonight and hope to see you all at the next deadline!

Voice of Indonesia on 9525kHz has signed off at 1130 since the middle of
October, so we can not listen to Japanese program at 1130 and Indonesian
program at 1200 at 9525kHz. But after that I found the frequency of these
program was changed. My monitoring schedule on October 23 and 25 is as
follows;
0830-0900# English 11785kHz
#0900-1000# Malay 9525kHz
#1000-1030 Thai 11785kHz (Former schedule in Thai was
1100-1130.)
1030-1130 Chinese 11785kHz (Former schedule in Thai was
1000-1100.)
1130-1200 Japanese 11785kHz
1200-1300# Indonesian 11785kHz
The broadcasting time in Thai and Chinese was changed and the frequency is
used on 11785kHz. In Japanese program, the frequency was still announced as
9525kHz. I do not know whether this schedule is liquid because Thai program
was observed on 9525kHz on October 26. we have to continue to observe the
schedule for the time being. (Yamada, JAPAN)
RRI Yogyakarta on 5059kHz is not heard since the middle of October.
(Yamada)
RRI Manado on 3214.8kHz was slightly up to 3215.0kHz and changed sign off
time from 1405 to 1605. First noted on October 20. (Yamada)
RRI Banda Aceh on 3904.8kHz reactivated. The station now signs off at 1515
after Jakarta news relay at 1500. First noted on Oct 20. (Juichi Yamada,

months after follow-up and 2 1/2 years after original report. v/s Valentin

wrote, "Nueva Direccion: De mi persona"): Jr. Mariscal Sucre No. 644,
Bambamarca. Address on stationary is: Jr. Ramon Castilla No. 628,
Bambamarca. Stationary also shows frequency of 5645 and slogan: "UN NUEVO
CANAL DE EXPRESION POPULAR". Letter contains some interesting information
about the station. The Spanish and/or the style was difficult to translate,
but as I understand the letter, the following information was given: Radio
La Voz de San Antonio is affiliated with the network "La Coordinadora
Nacional de Radio" (CNR) and aspires to be a member of "La Asociacion
Mundial de Radios Comunitarias" (AMARC) ("The World Association of
Community Radio Stations"). This station is left wing, or, as stated in the
letter, "totally peasant" ("una Radio totalmente Campesina"). The station
(and apparently the station name) "originates" from a campesino community
named San Antonio, which is located five kilometers from Bambamarca. It was
in this community that militant groups called "Rondas Campesinas" ("Peasant
Patrols" or "Peasant Night Patrols") were organized around 1978. These
militant groups combat "thefts" and violence committed by transgressors
referred to as "thieves", "people with a bad way of life" and "the
powerful". Radio La Voz de San Antono was born to share the experiences and
the struggles of the campesinos, and it is mostly an educational and
cultural station dedicated to guiding its campesino comrades. The station
has been trying to broadcast on medium wave; but it has been having
financial problems, making this project impossible. Many thanks to Don
Moore and Bob Wilkner for checking this translation and for offering very
helpful suggestions. (Lazarus) (thank YOU for sharing the info with us!

SAN MARINO.
11410, 19 Oct, 0835-1050*, Radio San Marino International testing from a
0.2 - 1.0 kW transmitter in the Republic of San Marino heard Oct. 19 0835
till close at 1050 with non-stop Italian and English pop music on 11410
kHz. Best heard in USB with SINPO 25444. Homepage is seen on
http://www.exactweb.com/RSMI. (Petersen)
According to someone "in the know", the test of Radio San Marino Intl took
place with 300 W from Florence, Italy, not from the Republic of San Marino.
So, we have still to wait for the activation of RSM, that will take place
later in the year (SRS-News, via Mougenez).
Mougenez: as a follow-up to the message I sent to you yesterday, here is
how RADIO SAN MARINO INTERNATIONAL reacted to the rumours saying they were
actually not transmitting from San Marino: ‘Of course we ask who is the
"SOMEONE IN THE KNOW" that know a similarthing !!!! Only 5 (five) people
that are involved in this project know exactly the place of the
transmitter, that is actually in the territory of the Republic of San
Marino. Two are: ******* and ******** . The other 3 are not DX-er or
involved with DX-ing or Internet, but only Italian speakers and others.
So we hope that for the next news about our station you will follow our
E-mail that you have received and you will receive by our official
mailing-list.
Thanks for the cooperation; you will find some more news on our site, that
will be updated in the next days also in German language!!

VOICE OF THE PEOPLE OF KURDISTAN
General remarks
Voice of the People of Kurdistan (Kurdish: "aira dangi gelli kurdistana",
Arabic: "sawt sha'b kurdistan") was first observed on 23rd October 1988,
but may have been in existence for some time before then. It supports the
Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) led by Jalal Talabani.
The radio was based in Galalah until October 1992 when it moved to
Sulaymaniyah. It was forced out of Sulaymaniyah when KDP forces took over
the city in September 1996. Prior to then it had also operated FM and
television services.
Programmes from "Voice of Iraq-Iraqi Broadcasting Corp" have been carried
on Voice of the People of Kurdistan in the past.
The radio has in the past used frequencies around 15060-v, 7270-v, 6295-v,
5845-5880-v, 4000-4200-v and 3930-3960-v.
All frequencies, times and duration of broadcasts are highly variable.

Chinese Number Station "New Star Broadcasting" Starts Fifth Channel.
First noted on October 19, 1997, the Chinese number station "New Star
Broadcasting Station" has now put out a fifth channel on the in-band
frequency of 13750.00 kHz. Noted as early as 2300 UTC and as late as 0900
UTC. The format of broadcasts is the same as the other channels and
identification is as follows: "Zheli shi Xinxing guangbo diantai, di wu
tai" or "This is New Star Broadcasting Station, the fifth channel." This
channel distinguishes itself from the other channels by a hum in the
signal.
This fifth channel has probably been set up to relief the other four
channels. Activity has been notably down (especially Sundays), broadcasts
are usually on the hour or half hour (not always both) and sign-off time
has been noted as early as 0900.
To recap, the frequencies of all channels are now as follows....
New Star Channel 1: 11430.00
New Star Channel 2: 15388.04
New Star Channel 3: 9725.00
New Star Channel 4: 8300.01
New Star Channel 5: 13750.00

Hi readers,
A calm week this time. But then, that's okay to me, as I haven't got that
time to edit today ;-) Tomorrow, I am visiting the Games Fair in Essen.
It's a great event, every major game producer is there and you can play
nearly every game you want. Not to say that you find some 20 year old
games on the flea market there. So that will be great fun.
And for next week: keep the mails flooding the mailboxes again :-)

ABOUT DX-WINDOW
####################
Contributions:
Submit to editor for the coming issue, mentioned in the introduction.
What to/how to contribute:
We are interested in real DX-loggings, full information on new or future
stations, news like new times or frequencies, QSL- and station information
on home service stations/"rare" DX-stations on shortwave only. In the ODDS
AND ENDS section, selected comments, short articles of HOT character will
be passed.
Our aim is to spread hot and up-to-date dx-information amongst
our members. And to get to know each other better. Other loggings, articles
of a non-outdating character, QSL-information etc. should be sent to ShortWaveNews
as usual. The editor is free to "cut hard" and bring only the hottest items
he receives.
These following rules apply:
The DX-Window will be sent via e-mail to those members of the Danish
Shortwave Club International (DSWCI) who contribute regularly. If you find
that you have been put "off the list" and miss the DX-Window, just send
us your hottest contributions. Or find the "DX Window" a few days later
on World Wide Web in the DSWCI section of the "Nordic Shortwave Center"
on
http://swl.sds.se/
You will also find back issues on the web. All this is offered
free of charge to any DX-er, but we expect that regular visitors to our
WWW-page do so in the spirit of Shareware and join the DSWCI. You will
then as a member receive our monthly bulletin SHORTWAVE NEWS which also
contains a lot of other information of value for the active DX-er.
