This past Wednesday (June 14), Segundo Andrango from the Quichua dept. and myself went to look for the station up near Otavalo. Segundo believed he recognized the voice on a Quichualanguage tape I brought over to him a few months ago. He was absolutely right. We were at the station, spent a good part of the day with the operator, interviewed him and took lots of pictures. I've promised the details to Britain's Short Wave Magazine, who will be printing it in an upcoming issue. (McVicar) |

1937 UTC w/Otavaleno folk music, TCs and ID's w/slogans like "La radio que comparte con gusto" (The radio station that shares with pleasure). OM anncr switched fluently from Spanish to Quichua. He sounds like he's been in the business for a long time--very smooth. Signals excellent here in Quito, making my comments from last week voidish :-) Rather, I suspect an increase in power. June 4. somewhere in Imbabura province, we think; New Fqy of 5848.35v kHz 1204 UTC Apr.9; tuned in to hear ranchera music, OM in Quichua with TC and talk. Announced "musica Cristiana"--then more than an hour of unterrupted music. About 8 songs by the same group, then another set by a different group. The songs themselves sounded like Chimborazo-Quichua and were gospel songs. Nothing said until 1350 when OM in Spanish came on with "Nuestro amigos de la sintonia de Radio Alianza,muy buenos dias..." and announced the next song. After a few more songs, OM mentioning Palm Sunday ("Domingo de Ramos"), IDs as "Radio Alianza, la estacion de America Latina." Ranchera music. Signals were very strong and noticably better than they were when they were on 5453.9. First time I've heard them in a few weeks. (McVicar Jihad) |

Is the correct id for the station ided as Ondas Quevedenas and "Radio Allente" last week. (Klemetz DXPL). While Henrik provided us with the id of this one Dave Valko was the first one (from 2/8) to find it on 5686.2. By 2/14 it was back on 5453.9. (Johnson) This is a pirate station in Imbabura province. (Klemetz DXPL via Johnson) Presumably R. Alianza, On 2/11, 0302-0404*, HC folk mx w/live M anncr after every song w/TCs, ments of Ecuador, poss. IDs, and off w/NA. On 2/13, 1058-1120, Rom. mx pgm w/M host, but too weak to copy this day. On 2/15, 1125-1140, Hrd w/folk mx and M anncr only twice. Some long periods of dead air between songs. Modulation is weak. past 0300 playing lots of Pasillos and music by Bolivia's famous group, Kjarkas (of the stolen Lambada song fame). Lots of ID's and TC's heard. My roommate is from HC, and we agree that the programming is too standard and '"above board" for a pirate. As for an accent, he told me that the announcer sounds exactly like all of the AM pros in Quito. Therefore, in the case that this is indeed a pirate, then the op must have much experience. (Grace, Dc) Noted on 2-19 from 0045 till 0208 sign off with typical HC mx, also on 2-20 from 1105-1150 fade with non-stop mx until 1118 them OM ancr with greetings. Still no site IDs or ADs noted. ( Lobdell). 0300-0333, Pgm of E-Z HC (guitar/vcls) mx w/M anncr host between songs. Finally got IDs; 0314 "...10 de la noche 14 minutos ? la radio...Ecuatoriana...Alianza ? musica...", 0317 "? la radio ? musica...horas ? minutos Ios...Ecuador ? Radio Alianza mas ?. Estamos ? Ecuatoriana para ? todo en...Latino de Colombia de Sur America ? sintonia. Expresso Ecuador". Other IDs at 0306 and 0326 Ments of Provincia Imbabura. Next morning at '1121-1137, s/on w/HC folk mx, a couple IDs by M including this one at 1133 "6 horas...34 minutos en Radio Alianza, la radio magnifico ...Ecuatoriana...". Both times fair.
