Radio Luz y Sonido - the full storyRadio Luz y Sonido, a new religious broadcaster of the Diocese of Huanuco, first appeared on 6473, in September 1993. The first news was brought from Henrik Klemetz in Santa Fe de Bogota, Colombia. Without any difficulty, its powerful signal has been heard also in Japan. Radio Luz y Sonido has been regularly observed on 6472-6473 in the range from its first appearance until late May 1996. Since they have previously planed to move from 6473 to 3235 under the direction of the Ministry of Transports and Communications, it became to be audible on 3234.8 in the 90 meter band. Reportedly after having changed its shortwave frequency, its signal was weaker than former one while being outside band.
The reason why I decided to return to be in Huanuco after about 10 years of my first visit, is needless to say that to visit the newest shortwaver, Radio Luz y Sonido. On 12/1/1995, I made a surface journey from Lima to Huanuco by Empresa de Transportes "Leon de Huanuco". I knocked at the entrance door. A Sister came to open it. She asked me my object of visit, then I was allowed to enter the small station house installed in the corner of the Church garden. I was immediately interviewed during the evening transmission, before the beginning of station tour. The small building was simply consisted by a tiny studio, an announcing cabin, a vacant office, no more, but the board was decorated with a couple of colorful postcards sent from overseas listeners and station name made by red paperboard which identified itself "Luz y Sonido". After the transmission at 8:30 PM local time, I made an interview with the station director, Profesor Jesús Abd Pereira. In September 1993, Radio Luz y Sonido commenced its experimental transmission on the nominal frequency of 6473.
The station was established by the Bishop of Huanuco ("Obispado de Huanuco") with a primary objective of bringing the C hristianity to the rural urban communities in the Department of Huanuco and the neighboring departments. The station was inaugurated on March 14, 1994, under the direction of Padre Obispo Herman Artale Ciancid. Indeed, it is not a commercial broadcaster but a Christian station specialized in religious, educational and cultural programs.
The station is equipped with a 1kW transmitter which was formerly used by the medium wave outlet of Emisoras JSV. This transmitter was modified by Jorge Ben avides Moreno to able to transmit on shortwave band. Its signal is fed into a 1/2 wave dipole antenna (11.5 meters high above the ground). Transmitting unit is settled at the back of Church building. |
