Adventist SW transmitter nearing completion: A 5-kW shortwave transmitter being renovated for a new term of service in Peru is nearing completion in the Elco transmitter factory in Costa Rica. David Gregory, programme director for AWR-PanAmerica, reports plans call for transfer of the transmitter to Peru in October. The AWR Board of Directors voted last year to transfer the transmitter to the Voice of Hope affiliate radio station at Juliaca, near Lake Titicaca in southern Peru, for a new programme service to over 10m people who speak the Quechua language. The transmitter will also broadcast programmes in Spanish and Ayamara. The coverage area is expected to include the countries of Peru, Paraguay and Bolivia as well as northern Chile and Argentina and parts of Brazil. (`AWRecorder', jul 97 via BBCM and direct) |
