Peru: Radio Cristal, San Hilarión

1997-09-13 R Cristal 7746 0043 heard warming up with chicha music. Ensuing s/on annc't, 0054, said "7745 kHz banda internacional de los 49 metros" and included a greeting from owners, who were mentioned as "familia García Gaona" (not García Arjona as first tent. reported; I'm pretty sure I've got it OK now). Stn location was given twice, and as often is the case, slurring and without particular emphasis. Only after cross-checking the tape with my "Almanaque del Perú" can I establish the QTH as "distrito de San Hilarión", in the province and "departamento" of San Martín. Per speaker, stn is still in a testing stage, but regular transmissions, also in the local morning, will start shortly. (Klemetz) DXWin 81
1997-09-12 Cristal ? 7745.9 0205-0300 mumbling speech. Signal faded ard 0300 or station signed off. No R Cristal ID heard noted as yet. Also Sep 13, very weak (Krone) DXWin 81
1997-09-12 R. Cristal 7745.94 0151 LA pop mx, chimes, TC and ID "R. Cristal, la mas potente del pais". Finally confirmed ctry at 0104 and made reference to his "nuevo, potente trasmisor". Exact spelling for town's name still not well defined, sounding phonetically as "Sangayau". Mic audio improved significantly, but rcpn is fair to fairly good. (Nigro) DXWin 81
1997-09-11 Cristal 7746 2330 Horacio A Nigro's believes the stn is called R Cristal. This is correct. The id tag - repeated over and over again – says "Cristal, la nueva radio, la radio más potente del Perú". Speaker avoids mentioning the QTH, but music is so local in flavour that I'd be surprised if this is anything else than a new pirate from the Huancabamba area in northern Peru. Reception was quite good by 2330, but started deteriorating one hour later. (Klemetz/ Dateline Bogota) DXWin 81
1997-09-10 Radio Cristal 7745.94 0220-0327 sign off, w/better modulation level. Chained huaynos w/ short dedications by man each 3 or 4 themes. 1997-09-07 Cristal ? 7745.94 0314-0316 huaynos finished the day's program right when I tuned in. No announcement. Alas. On Horacio's tip, tnx (Krone) DXWin 80
1997-09-03 Cristal ? 7746 0306-0308 apparently Peruvian mx, abruptly s/off. No ancmt. Also the following day at 0008 w/ lively mx, but bothered by heavy splatter from powerhouse RTTY on 7750 and local QRN. Continuous campo mx till 0250, then OC and s/off 0300. Very poor but carrier is not so bad. 7746 Re my one previously reported here. Agn hrd on Sept. 6, usual s/off circa 0300. Music modulation level almost normal, but studio mic modulation gets down dramatically. Hrd a woman w/ faint talks. Harmonic or new stn? (Nigro) DXWin 80
