1997-05-27 R Ondas del Rio Mayo 6797.8 info has been using a 1 kW Petrick tx for about a week only. The tx was recently brought back from Lima, said mgr Edilberto Peralta Lozada when I called him on the stn's brand new phone, +51 94 560006. He was happy to learn that they are getting out a lot better now than before. In canned annc'ts, the stn says they are on MW 1490, call sign OBX9N, and 94.5 FM stereo. SW is not mentioned, though. [Just for the record, the cordillera next to Nueva Cajamarca is called Mamanhuasi, not Huamanhuasi, Peralta explained]. In principle, Peralta will QSL, "but some letters are lost in the mail, you know", he said. (Klemetz/Dateline Bogota) DXWin 62

1997-05-01 R Ondas del Rio Mayo 6797.8 2250 The owner does appreciate phone calls, especially if he may hand them over to the DJ, but so far the station is technically not equipped get the actual phone call on the air. This we know after Rafael Rodriguez' phone call to the station from my QTH, May 1, 2250.When monitoring the tape, we were surprised to find that Rafael was not on the tape, only the voice of the Rio Mayo DJ! The correct phone number to the station is +51 94 556006 and not as in "Dateline Bogota" April 21, where there was a typo. (Klemetz) DXWin 63

1997-04-25 Radio Ondas del Rio Mayo ? 6797.8 1101-1132 strong signal but faded at times, much noise on frequency, Peruvian music with talks by a man, including Tcs and saludos. Heard two recorded IDs in a row, the first of which included the words: "Radio Ondas del Rio Mayo...sintonia...a traves de su doble frecuencia, AM y FM, transmitiendo desde la ciudad de Nueva Cajamarca...San Martin, Peru." The second recorded ID was the same one reported by TIN in DX-Window 61. Some commercials, including one for Botica San Lucas, "la mejor alternativa." (Lazarus) DXWin 62

1997-04-18 Radio Ondas del Radio Mayo 6797.76 1030-1108 The morning px was entitled "El Madrugador" At 1102 nice canned ID was given as "Nueva Cajamarca, extensa llanura ... sur al norte, ... Cordillera de Huamanhuasi, ... Cordillera Oriental, a 800 metros sobre el nivel del mar, Radio Ondas del Rio Mayo transmitiedno en su doble frecuencia: en AM OBX9N 1490kHz y en frecuencia modulada estereo 94.5MHz. Ondas del Rio Mayo, con sus estudios ubicados en Jiron Huallaga 348, la radio superior." The callsign for its FM frequency was not announced but it should be OCW9O. The FM outlet is actually on 100.7MHz (not on the official assigned frequency of 94.5MHz). At 1107 some advs were heard: "Funeraria San Juan", "Botica Delgado", "Pastereria Guzman", etc. It seems that now they are currently using the "Petrick" brand TXR-1000 model transmitter (1kW) which had been used for the experimental transmission on 6818.4kHz on which observed from April through July 1996. When I visited them in January 1997, the station operated on 6803VkHz with "Hiwatt" brand transmitter (0.25kW). (TIN, 18/4) DXWin 61
1997-04-14 R Ondas del Rio Mayo 6797.7 1047 very strong signal with excited talk by man. Many mentions of workers so perhaps a political talk. Very clear, you could hear the table shaking as he stressed a point. There was weak music in the background the entire time, but at one point it sounded like someone was sharpening a pencil near him. Several mentions of San Jose de Alto Mayo and Nueva Cajamarca. At 1100 there was some talk by a woman and then a song. At 1105 there was a canned id that also mentioned their FM outlet. Also heard slogan-La Radio-Superior. I believe this is a reactivation as I haven't seen any logs of this one since November, when there were on 6802v. Having said that, they were untraced when I checked the next day. (Johnson Apr 14-5) Cumbre 134
1997-04-13 Radio Ondas del Radio Mayo 6797.8 0230 with a program about their new period "Esta Casa Radial....", thanking people all over Peru for showing their support of the station. Announcing that they would be transmitting all night but later at 0310 their signal became very weak mentioning the following slogan "Ondas del Rio Mayo, la superior...", Mentioning a telephone number for their listeners abroad as 51+94+556003. I tried to call but it was impossible. (Rodriquez April 13) Cumbre 134
1997-04-12 R. Ondas del Rio Mayo 6797.76 1135 Man with long talk in SP, addressed to "hermanos y hermanas", "palabra de Dios". Must be locally-produced program, preacher mentioning "Ciudad de Moyobamba" and "Ciudad de Nueva Cajamarca". Much stronger than I would expect for Peru at this time of the morning. Theme music with voiceover 1148, "R Ondas del Rio Mayo" ID at 1149. Back to same man with similar tirade. Considerably lower frequency than recently reported 6802.8. Nice to hear this listed 250 watter in broad daylight. (Novello) DXWin 61

After 0145 or so, songs had distinct Oriental flavor. Very weak with muffled music audio. Off 0207. As I mentioned when reporting this one last week, Thanks McVicar on DXPL for the id (Hill, Apr. 19) Copied today 0158-0207* OM anncr in SS across T.O.H but lightning static prevented ID. After TOH anncs, into Andean flute ballad till 0207 when the music simply stopped. Carrier off at 02:08:30. (RIPPEL Apr 22) Cumbre 83
1996-02-09 Radio Ondas del Rio Mayo 6803 info had been totally illegaly broadcasting on both MW and SW frequencies for years without the MTT permission, so the station was eventually raided by the MTT and found to be using two 1kW national made transmitters with a private generator. Although the MTT gave orders to cease transmitting on the unauthorized frequencies until they received the official broadcasting license, the station is still active. (TIN Wavescan Krone) Cumbre 72
